We brought our first daughter home a couple days ago and our dogs have been in love ever since. They just sit and watch her from a distance and come herd family into the room when she starts crying. This is the closest we've let her get physically, but we've been sending home clothes and blankets since she was born so they can be familiar with her smell. They were also very loving towards my partner the whole pregnancy and would constantly watch over them.

Ps. Please ignore the bum clothing and unkempt appearance, it's been a long few days with a newborn.

As soon as we brought him home, Karl became super serious about home defense, every hair on his body standing on end as he loudly greeted visitors. And every time my daughter walked inside and ser down the car seat, that huge head wasin the seat, sniffing the baby head to toe. I

sniffing the baby head to toe. I actually met daughter outside and took the baby one day---as soon as Karl checked the car seat his head whipped up, eyes huge we'd lost the baby! I called him over so he could see the baby was fine, and that dog gave me the dirtiest looks the whole time he was doing his baby check, as if I had played a dirty trick on him!

Also, some friendly dad advice - make 60 second videos (frequently) of just normal family time. In the future it's amazing to go back and just relive the "normal" moments.

anonymousthrwaway 19d ago . ⋅ This is so sweet. I had an English bull dog who made is his job to be both of my kids' babysitters, and anytime he felt like I wasn't doing a good job, he would let me know. If baby was napping and starting to wake up, he would come get me and push me to wear baby was. When my son was 2 he had one of those little electric ride in Cars

Anytime my son rode in it my dog would trot along side of it and he would sometimes look back and bark at me if I let them get to far I really felt like he was saying, "Hurry up woman, our baby is getting away" Sadly, he had a ton of health problems and passed away last September. Life will never be the same. He really was my first kid in many ways.

Kelly-pocket .19d ago. Adorable! Why is this the closest? I wouldn't worry too much. My dog is also a gentle angel and they'd just do little sniffs and maybe a lick. But it's ok! You're daughter will be extra rad for being raised with dogs :)
