Got Karen'd on Black Friday On mobile so formatting will sorry. This story is from last Black Friday but it's definitely worth sharing!
  • 03
So I used to work at a customer service counter at a well known department store. We opened at 6 AM last Black Friday and Karen shows up around 7:30
  • 04
AM. It's not too busy so she asks if I can check her out (she has about five clothing items picked out, all from the clearance section.
  • 05
Clearance items have special colored tags). I welcome her and make conversation with her about her plans for the
  • 06
other stores she's going to. She pays in cash, I hand her her receipt and she goes on her way.
  • 07
About twenty minutes later, Karen reappears at the counter. She asks if I gave her a receipt. I tell her I did but she insists I
  • 08
didn't. I tell her that I'm unable to reprint her receipt since I've done other transactions since she left and would need to get a manager to retrieve her transaction.
  • 09
Meanwhile, no one on the second floor showed up for their shift and all the managers on duty (there
  • 10
are usually 3-4 at any given time of day) are upstairs helping customers so they wouldn't be able to come down to help for awhile. I relay this to Karen, who angrily agrees to wait.
  • 11
I keep helping other customers, while in between transactions am being reprimanded by Karen, who insists I am
  • 12
discriminating against her because she paid cash for clearance items. I try to explain to her that it doesn't matter how she
  • 13
paid, retrieval of old receipts is the same no matter what. Then a light goes on in her head. She demands that I go through the trash cans to make sure I didn't
  • 14
accidentally throw her receipt away. I oblige, and since it's now only 8 am, there was barely anything in there. Her receipt definitely wasn't there. Because I gave it to her.
  • 15
Finally, Karen yells "I AM BUYING CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FOR MY FAMILY AND WANT THEM TO BE ABLE TO RETURN THEM IF THEY DON'T LIKE THEM." I
  • 16
inform her that everything we sell is given a CRL (customer return label) so it can be returned without a receipt. The mistake I
  • 17
made was also telling her that clearance items only have a 30 day return policy, and Christmas would be a few days too late to return the items
  • 18
she purchased. She then looks me right in the eyes and says very calmly and condescendingly "Thank you for nothing. You are a fat ugly b ." Then walks out the door.
  • 19
Mind you, I'm 5'5 and 140 lbs. My manager came down ten minutes later but Karen was long gone.
