'It's just very weird and customers aren't happy': Petty dollar store boss forces employees to pay out of pocket for supplies

The quality of the customer service is going downhill fast at this one dollar store. 

How far would you go to help out a customer? Sometimes it's the little things that matter most, like helping an older person carry their bags to their car for them. Or an employee could make someone's day by finding a random coupon for them to apply to their purchase, saving them a few bucks. A worker might even brighten up a customer's day just by chatting with them as they double-bag their items. 

So it's pretty odd that this dollar store is doing away with all of that. Instead of being proud of their customer service, they're just inconveniencing their workers and customers with this new set of rules that will seemingly make everyone's lives a little worse. One of these new rules is that if customers can carry their purchases to the front of the store, employees aren't allowed to help them take the items to their car. Come on, how hard would it be to help Grandma put her bags in the trunk of her car? That's the kind of petty rulemaking that'll turn customers away from the store, and lead them towards the competitor's shop instead.

    Store manager wants employees to pay for bags out of pocket??? My dollar tree location runs out of bags really often, probably once a week or every other week for days. it's so bad that me and other coworkers have gotten almost attacked by customers upset that we don't have a bag for them.

    this made our regional director create new policies such as: if they can carry it to the register, they can carry it to their car, no bag 3 or less items, no bag no double bagging no separating items in bags no giving out bags for no reason

    my store manager told everyone that whoever is the main cashier when we run out of bags, has to pay at least $20 out of pocket to replace them. I don't even think that's legal.

    I think she's doing this because last time we ran out, her and 2 of our ASMS went and bought bags from big star out of their own money and they got mad at everyone else because we refused to pitch in. that's not our responsibility, that's not even THEIR responsibility. it's all just a load of sh to me.

    the schedule was revised because 3 employees quit and me saying that I wasn't informed of a revised schedule and can't 180 my night to conform especially because I'm a highschool student that can't drive myself. the original schedule was for me to come in on Thurs and Fri but apparently with the new one I was supposed to show up yesterday and today.

    bbix246 If your store is running out of bags, the store manager isn't ordering them. Bags have to be ordered every week. There is absolutely no way I'd pay for bags for a multi-billion dollar company.

    EmbraceBass I would quit in a screaming rage! ABSOFUCKINLUTELY NOT! The pressure they are putting on you and your coworkers is wild. Also, you don't get paid enough per hour and with little to no hours, $20 is a HUGE hit against everyone, especially per pack of bags.
