Call center employees protest wannabe-CEO's meeting: 'In comes the Head Karen'

    So I am unaware of how it work in the call centers work wherever you are, but this one was strange. Whilst I don't work for the company any longer, it has stuck with me for a while.

    At this company, their took pride in excelling in putting employees satisfaction in the company and offering a flexible work/life balance. Yes, I know it seems like all call centers offer this nowadays, but this company was (still is) legit. They won national and highly commendable awards for it.

    Every quarter, our Head of Dept. would come in and give us updates in what the company has improves on for customers and employees. We were told metrics all across the board.

    On this particular one, the Head of Dept. informed us that recent anonymous surveys from the employees weren't happy with their wage. Whilst the company at the time offered above minimum wage it was approx £4.00 more. With recent economic crises that is nothing.

    So in comes the Head Karen all with her (attempted) stern voice, Karen: This company pays you a lot of money for the work that you do. If I was the CEO I would decrease your wages. So be mindful of what you say on these surveys because it cold backfire. I don't want any of you to be here just for the money and then go home.     morgan423 There's something that breaks in the minds of upper management in the business world. It's almost like they try to absolve themselves of any possibility of feeling the guilt from paying workers far less than the value they produce... by making up and convincing themselves in their heads that the largest motivation of workers is everything else but money.     Jonathan_the_Nerd I took a management course in college. One of the things they said is that money isn't a motivator for employees. A raise or bonus provides a burst of motivation, but it wears off. I have no idea whether that's true or if it's just something managers tell themselves.

    night-otter Ahhh, a believer in "quiet quitting", which is really doing the work you are paid for.

    Final-Dig709 our manager encouraged us to write things down that he could actually actively work on improving. our biggest "change this please" was never getting statistic updates during our shift- managers were in charge of taking screenshots of the board and sending them in the GC to keep our progress. another issue was employees never actually getting to do things that made us feel valuable to the team.

    he said okay. gave a few employees access to view the board. those employees are in charge of giving stats. couple more employees are now in charge of sending the weekly newsletter, couple more are the designated readers who will be there to read the newsletter and new procedures during team meetings.

    these karens don't deserve to lead. leadership means taking, accepting, and implementing actual real feedback. it means listening to your employees on how to improve their efficiency and willingness to work. if you don't want people for the money, cultivate a healthy workplace. then, people will stay despite the job being sty and work because the people are nice. but don't count on it if you don't provide raises

    MisterTimm. There are probably instances of truth to that. Like if a company offered me $5/hour more than I make now but it was toxic, I wouldn't take it. My day to day motivation for the work I do does come a lot from the continuous respect and acknowledgement I get, but pay is always the backdrop to all that. If my company came around and said they're giving us better insurance and double the pto but we're dropping to minimum wage, I'd be out. I suspect what they're trying to say is the motiva
