Update: Shopaholic mother spends nearly all of daughter's college fund, husband files for divorce: 'It's VERY easy to spend $170,000'

It's no secret that shopping can become addictive. The internet certainly doesn't make it any easier for the online shopaholics out there. Neither do saving accounts that may not be intended for that third sweater on sale that you definitely do not need but it's hard to say no when the movie is easily accessible. An adult with a good sense of self-control would be able to tame the beast inside us that just wants to spend, spend, spend. 

Unfortunately, however, not everyone is blessed with that same level of impulse control. Here, we have a mother whose husband had suggested years ago that they start a college fund for her gifted and intelligent daughter (his stepdaughter). After years of making incremental contributions, the funds in the account accumulated to $20,000… that is, until the mother's shopping addiction depleted nearly all the money right when it was ready to be used.
