Last month, there were rumblings in the media that actor Paapa Essiedu would be cast as Severus Snape in the upcoming Harry Potter HBO series, and everyone seems to have a hot take about it. He's best known for his role I May Destroy You, which was also created by HBO. The reason the rumors of his casting are at all controversial is because he's not only black, but also hot. I feel like Snape could hypothetically be any race, but in no universe should he ever be as good looking as Paapa Essiedu. If this man was Snape, Jilly would be real and all those fanfictions about Snape being Harry's father would come true. 

I feel like race-bended casting has become so much more controversial in the past couple of years than it's been since the 80s and 90s, and it's just incredibly disheartening. I just have a feeling in the pit of my stomach that they're going to cast a young black actress to play Hermione, the internet is going to be incredibly evil about it, and Warner Brothers is going to do nothing to protect her.
