Welcome to the New Year, Midwesterners. In 2025, we're all about embracing our roots. We're not going to let a little lactose intolerance stop us from eating all the cheese we could dream of eating. We're going to call everything a casserole and a salad even when any sane person would just call it "slop." We're going to curse out town's potholes, and swear they're the worst in the country, even though everyone else is saying the exact same thing. We will embrace our unpredictable weather, and just keep both a jacket & mittens and shorts in the trunk of our car just to see where the day takes us.

There's nothing wrong with having Midwestern pride. We're a great region (after all, our lakes are literally the greatest), and we should embrace being great. Sure, the coasts might be flashier and have better weather, but nobody can compete with our spirit.

Midwesterners love memes, it's just a fact. And no, not just your Aunt Carol posting a few low-res comics on Facebook, though there's plenty of that too. No, Midwesterners love memes because we're proud of our little idiosyncrasies. We want the world to know that we're nice folks who slap both of our knees and say ‘welp’ when we mean we're about to leave the party. We're proud of the fact that all of our football teams are the best in the nation, even if statistics don't exactly say so. We love calling a horrifying mayonnaise-based concoction a “salad” even though we know that it contains zero vegetables. We don't care that we're crazy, we're just crazy and we're embracing it.
We like our memes like we like our people-- warm, friendly, silly, and full of humor. It's no wonder that one of the biggest hubs for comedy in the United States, The Second City, is located in the Midwest. We're a funny people, and we want you to know it.
