UPDATE: Kind Stranger Rescues a Lucky Feline When They Extend a Helping Hand Towards a Ragged Stray Cat Destined for a Plush, Indoor Life

Who saved who? 

When it comes to rescuing strays, most cat lovers boast of their selflessness and eagerness to scoop up every skinny kitty on the street, but rarely do we find a feline fanatic willing to do what needs to be done. Rescuing cats is not glamorous business and oftentimes looks less like a cuddly kitten calendar and more like multiple vet visits, missing teeth, and a much-needed deworming. 

But that's exactly what this kind-hearted stranger was willing to do for the skin-n-bones cat they saw wandering around the streets at the end of last summer. Scraggly, covered in fleas, and fighting for their life, Proton the cat was in desperately bad shape when they were discovered by u/FFFRabbit. Lucky for both cat and cat lover, this feisty feline was willing to fight a little bit longer, working with their new hooman to build the plushy life they deserved.

  • Found dying on the sidewalk Awarded a Cat On Veteran's Day, I found this cat laying on the sidewalk with no energy, covered in fleas, and nothing but fur skin and bones. I picked up his head and laid it down. He didn't do anything. I think he reserved

  • himself to dying. I took him in, bathed him 5 times with Dawn but after pulling over 300 fleas from his fur and still not killing them all, I decided to shave him. I have been keeping him warm, feeding him and hydrating him. Took

  • him to the vet and they said that he was malnourished, had ringworm and tape worms. They said he was neutered but no chip. Also, not a TNR. They said he is wither a young cat that had a really rough start or his an elderly cat with remarkable teeth.

  • Either way he is now home and is slowly becoming acquainted with my other strays I saved. He always leaves his tongue out and drools all over me. He is such an affectionate fur baby!

  • Proton was affectionate despite being abandoned on the street. Purrhaps this feline was ready to move into their new home sooner than a hooman was made available to him. But because of their rescuer's purrserverence, Proton will now see a life far better than the one he had on the street.

  • 3 months after Proton was discovered wandering the streets, their hero reported back to the masses online, sharing a heartwarming update of Proton's progress. With the fleas, worms, and parasites taken care of, Proton was nearly back on track to be a healthy furball. 

  • Update: Proton (The Cat Dying on the Sidewalk) Proton went to the vet today and had 4 teeth extracted since they were rotting and prevented him from eating normally and only wet food.

  • They estimated him to be 8-9 years old based on his eyes having some clouding. Apparently this begins around 6 years old. He is doing VERY well and he and my other cats are starting to acclimate to one another.

  • Now, 4 months after his rescue, Proton finally has a clean bill of health!! After months of TLC, wet food, and endless cuddle sessions, Proton is now a happy, healthy feline, destined to live out the rest of his days in the comfort of human company… Alongside their friendly feline brothers and sisters.

  • He had three teeth extracted about 2 weeks ago and is now doing much better and has a clean bill of health. He still eats only wet food, but it will probably take some time for him to adjust to hard food again. He LOVES chicken and croissants.
