positive wage increase of about 1k dollars gross per year which is negligible, however the extra stress around trying to plan a vacation around no income for that time is nowhere close to worth it. I hate it here. Any thoughts? Anything that can be done?

MinimumBuy1... • 13h ago Your wife needs to update her resume right now. This company is either about to go under or they're about to lose come contracts. There is no way 80 cents an hour is going to compensate me for losing my time off. Take your unpaid time off in interviews looking for a new job.

EDIT: Are they going to compensate you lump sum for the vacation you didn't use? Probably not. My point stands.

RubbeSwe 13h ago. . Here in Sweden hourly contracts are compensated with +12,5% extra pay to cover vacation pay (for monthly pay you get 5 weeks minimum, usually more if you're a white collar worker).

I don't know how much 80 cents is percentage wise, but to be honest - USA doesn't have the best reputation worldwide for a work life balance? I would be looking for another job if you feel it's a bad exchange.

    • F 12h ago Edited 10h ago. DO NOT SIGN THAT!!!! It's actually saying she gets a raise of less than 1 cent per hour. The paper shows "will receive an .80 cent increase in pay per hour." That definitely was not vetted by the legal team.

The company can't unilaterally change the terms of employment; workers have to accept the new terms.

Figure out how much the original vacation time was worth & get at least that much of a raise. Plus, get looking for a new job. The company is in a bad way.

ETA 0.8 cents per hour X 40 hours per week X 52 weeks per year = $16.64 per year increase.

zizijohn ⚫ 13h ago Gotta love the fact that this manager is so illiterate that they have, in fact, offered an hourly raise of four-fifths of a cent, at least according to this document.

PerceptionRou... 11h ago Cancelling vacation time completely is awful..... Meanwhile, in Australia......I get 6 weeks paid leave a year. While I'm on leave I get paid an extra 17.5% to make up for shift allowances.

Every year I get a couple of weeks paid sick leave. It accrues. Every 10 years I get a bonus 13 weeks of paid leave, just for hanging around.
  • 20
We also get a few months of paid parental leave, maternity leave, there's defence reserve leave, conference leave, family leave, etc etc

Why? Because we have a heavily unionised workforce and we maintain solidarity. This all took decades to achieve and has to be constantly defended. *Good luck to OP and family.
