They absolutely go blind with rage and lock in on their target, often hurting the people that they love along the way. In real life, snapping like that is a result of trauma. Of course, it is a common trope that anime protagonists have horrifying childhoods — childhoods filled with betrayal, alienation, and even torture! In the real world, they'd probably need years of therapy and rehabilitation to move on from their pasts. However, there are some MCs that do not fulfill this trope. They led normal, even happy lives, before going absolutely crazy over the course of the anime.
