Growing up, my parents left for work early every morning. When I was too young to stay home alone, I was lucky enough to have a best friend down the street whose mom was a stay-at-home mom. Every morning, my mom would drop me off on her way to work. I'd quietly let myself in, sit on the couch, and put on a good old episode of SpongeBob while waiting for everyone to get up for the day. I arrived fully fed, bookbag packed, and dressed for school, never disrupting their morning routine. Looking back, I'm sure my friend's family appreciated that. I was an easy guest. No parent wants to juggle their own chaotic morning routine and a random kid who's demanding pancakes or refusing to put on shoes.

That's why stories like this hit close to home. When one mom graciously agreed to help out her neighbor by watching her daughter a couple of mornings a week, she probably imagined a similar scenario: a quiet kid, an easy routine, and a simple favor between neighbors. But instead, she ended up with this.
