Update: Guy teases neighbor's dog with flying drone, takes them to court: '[The lawyer] suggested I counter-sue'

This person has been flaunting his new technological toy in all the wrong ways. 

Have you ever flown a drone before? Until a few years ago, these things weren't super common. However, they really took off in recent years (get it?!), and they became a household item for some technology lovers and video creators alike. Using the flying camera apparatus, you can take breathtaking footage from high in the air. Your device can soar across the sky, skim a lake, or check out a mountainous area with ease. All the while, the footage looks impressively smooth, like you're a director creating a movie of your own. 

Before you put a down payment on that drone, though, you may want to just search the phrase "drone fails." You'll discover that there are many ways that a drone can be demolished, since they're both fragile and not waterproof. Some people fly too close to the surface of a lake to get pretty footage, only to watch as their drone splashes into the water, never to be seen again. Others fly too high and get their drones stuck in trees or on mountaintops. Then there are people like this dude, who let their drones interact with a dog.

    Not sure what to do. Earlier today my neighbor came pounding on my door screaming obscenities and shouting at me.     called the police to complain once before, he was doing "fly bys" over my dog and getting very close to hitting him. The police didn't say he couldn't fly it in my yard but did ask him to stop doing so in order to avoid conflict. That only seemed to egg him on.

    Here's the update...

    Update A small update to my neighbor flying his drone in my backyard and attacking my dog: I was served a summons by a Sheriff's Deputy, neighbor decided to take me to Small Claims over his drone. My MIL is a paralegal secretary, so I was able to get a free consultation with a lawyer where she works to ask some questions about what to bring and how to prepare. He

    Turns out the neighbor was so unhappy about his precious drones that he headed to the Sheriff's office. 

    I'm just confused… what did he think was going to happen? What was his intention: just to tease the pup forever? He never once considered what might happen if he buzzed a drone within a few feet of a playful dog's face?

    seemed genuinely amused that my neighbor was even trying to sue. He also suggested I counter sue and how I could possibly add in more damages. He also told me that my neighbor and I technically live within 5 miles of an airport, and even though it doesn't have a tower technically that falls under FAA regulations.     several thousand feet in the air, flying near an airport and made an inquiry into if he was registered to fly drones, saying he owned two very large drones (he already bought a new one, this one is almost 5' across). I don't know the weight of his, but it definitely is at least a few pounds. They took my information and have called me back once, so I know they're investigating but don't know anything else. Not sure if they'll tell me anything anyways.

    I brought both police reports to court, as well as several photos of my backyard, photos of our shared 8' high privacy fence, medical bills for my dog, and a few short videos I had of him doing fly bys over my dog in the past. I argued that his flying was causing my dog anxiety and that's what provoked it, and thanks to y'alls advice, that my dog could have potentially di d from ingesting part of the drone or if the drone hit him.     he now has to pay me just under $2,000 for various vet bills (xrays, dental exams, sedation, medication etc). He is also banned from flying over my property, and I installed trail cams front and back yards just in case. He seems pretty upset with me, so I wanted to be careful.

    Sinreborn The thing I love about this is that to a certain extent, you do actually own the air above your property. Airplanes cleared by the FAA can use the space but that's authorized by the government. Your neighbor does not get to hover 5 feet over your lawn and yell "I'm not touching you!". What a man-baby.

    silentspeck Of all the dogs to do this to, he did it to the most stubborn, clever, and thoughtful breed possible. Not that I'd encourage doing it to any dog but doing to a husky or husky mix was just asking for the poor doggo to work out how to take revenge asap.
