Grandfather’s inheritance causes rift between sisters when one wants to keep his home while the other wants to sell it, the parents try to mediate to no avail: “I’m not going to walk away from something that’s mine”
If there's one thing that drives families apart, corruption of business, and dismantling of family dynamics it's money. Money is the source of our livelihood and motivation for many, but it also creates dysfunctional dynamics that hinder the development of real connections and relationships. Suing is a common way to use money as an emotional tactic in relationships. Being sued by a family member or friend is something you can't go back from. There's no recovering the relationship after the malicious attempt at suing. There's also inheritance. Inheritance is a dividing factor in relationships far too often. Maybe someone wasn't given the lucrative or material values they thought they were entitled to, and they become bitter and resentful of the one who did. Maybe someone who's still alive is using their inheritance to leverage something else that they want in the relationship. Even though it's common, I've always felt that it was incredibly manipulative and selfish to try to combine money with emotions. If you love someone, there's no room for this kind of dynamic.
This brings us to the story below. In the story, the protagonist is a woman who's received an inheritance from her grandfather – his old him. She shares this equally with her sister. They made a mutual decision to sell the house, seeing as neither of them live near it. Until her sister decides she wants to keep it for reasons unclear.
