When confronted with terrible parents, the best thing to do is take the high road. They will (probably) never give you the relationship you wanted with them. This is exactly what the girls do in this story.

The story centers around a family in which the father has abandoned his daughters after his first wife passes. They're sent to live with their grandparents, while the father's sister still keeps in close contact with them. 20 years later, the father wants to reignite their relationship and get to know his children. They took the high road and told him a crystal clear, "no." He and his current wife can't handle the rejection.

The entitlement and audacity of this woman to demand her stepchildren (whom she has no relationship with) make amends with their father. It's absolutely not her place to encourage him to be in their lives after leaving them high and dry for 20 years, and it definitely doesn't make any sense that she would even want a relationship with them.
