'I've fallen in love with a stray and want to bring her home': Kind person brings in stray void, turns out cat is microchipped but her original family is nowhere to be found

Hey there, feline enthusiasts. Y'all know how much we love cats over here at the ICanHasCheezburger editorial office, and that's precisely why we find it so incredibly hard to understand what goes through people's minds when they abandon their felines, leaving them with nothing to fend for themselves in this big, bad world. Unfortunately, that is what happened to sweet void 'Boo'.

When the original poster (or OP), a kindhearted cat enthusiast, came across Boo, they instantly fell in love. OP brought Boo home and tried to assess the situation. Of course, their first intuition told them that Boo had found her forever home, and OP knew Boo would be happy and healthy. But when Boo was taken to the vet to check for a microchip, lo and behold, Boo was found to be chipped! Despite being chipped, Boo had not been fixed and was likely not up to date on her necessary vaccines. The kindhearted cat enthusiast who took Boo in tried to contact Boo's original family via the company her microchip was registered with, but to no avail. Two months passed, and still not a peep from Boo's original family.

The dilemma of what to do with Boo became clearer and clearer—Boo's family was nowhere to be found and had likely dumped her when they moved to another place. OP knew what had to be done. First things first: a spay surgery was scheduled for Boo, along with vaccinations and shots. We have a feeling Boo will be very happy and incredibly loved in her new furever home, and she certainly deserves as much.

    Yes! We took in our lovely, beautiful Boo girl. She has been loving the indoor life. I'd love to get her outdoor access again soon; I think she'd still enjoy the exercise and stimulation. However, for now, she seems pretty content hanging out with me and my hubs in front of the TV, or better yet, on top of my laptop.

    I took her to the vet before taking her home, just to make sure she was clear on anything contagious, and we found out that she is, in fact, chipped. I contacted both companies with which the chip is registered, and both have tried to reach out to her original family. I gave my name and contact info. But it's been two months, and I still haven't heard anything.

  • We fully support this decision. It's quite clear that Boo's family is no longer interested in Boo's health and happiness, therefore it is totally appropriate for the original poster to take matters into their own cat appreciating hands and give Boo the care she truly deserves.

    genuinely think it has helped, which is great. Boo is still prone to some territorialism when it comes to her food bowl, but that's understandable, considering the environment she was in before us, and we're working through it.

    I know there will be plenty of people who are gonna make comments and suggestions about introduction techniques and whatever. I'm sure no matter what approach I may have taken, there will be somebody who thinks I should have done something different. And that's fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and experiences.

    However, this is how we've done and yeah, it was a little rocky at first. But we're okay now. Anyway, Boo is loving life and is learning to share her favorite humans. And I am just so grateful that we were able to sort everything out for her to be in a warm, secure environment before freezing temperatures hit.

    DiveCat Top 1% Commenter Boo is part of your family now. If her original "family" never bothered to spay her they weren't seriously committed to being the carers they needed to be for her. Going into heat repeatedly is hugely taxing and both that and pregnancies increase risks of cancer for them, too.

    Thanks for giving Boo a good life! I'd say your cats are being far more than just tolerant if they can hang out that close together. Cats are weird, even the best of bonded buddies will sometimes have weird freakouts on one another.
