'I would never get a small dog': 15 Big dog pawrents who got wholesomeonely Chihuahua-fied

Happy Sunday, friends and members of our Animal Comedy family. We've always had big dogs growing up - a golden retriever, a few rescues that were medium-large doggos…the smallest was probably an Australian Shepard who would be considered a medium-sized dog. We were raised to think of small dogs as annoying and yappy. Untrained. Sometimes, even angry. But this stereotype is exactly that…a stereotype. Saying that all chihuahuas are annoying is like saying that all men are bad. Sure, some are, but there are a lot that aren't.

If you were to hand us a chihuahua right now and say, "Here, take this baby, we can't keep them anymore," we would of course take them. And you know what? We would probably fall head over heels in love with them. We firmly believe that there are no bad dogs, just bad hoomans who don't train them properly.     throwracomplez I always loved dogs. But I never "liked" chihuahuas. (the ones I knew were always angry and loud, plus they were so small I though not good for hugging, I liked fluffy dogs) But now look at me. I'm obsessed

  • Look at those peaceful little angels. So smol. So adorable. Sure, you can't wrestle with them like a big dog, but they can curl up in your arms while you both wholesomely watch your favorite TV show. Plus, you can dress them up in little sweaters…and they actually enjoy it!

    BoringJuiceBox I grew up with a Lab, always stereotyped Chihuahuas as barky and loud, big dogs were better imo. Fast forward I will only ever have small dogs, my boys and cat sleep next to me every day.

    [deleted] We had labradors before so when my mum said she was getting a chihuahua (rehoming from a family member of a friend) I tried to talk her out of it believing all the stereotypes. We didn't see a picture till she got him. She sent a photo while I was at work and I fell in love with him. Honestly don't know what I'd do without him now.

    lattelady37 I never thought I'd have a chihuahua. My Mom volunteered me to foster one as a rescue, and when he was placed I was so heartbroken. She got me one to keep forever, and I will ALWAYS have a chihuahua now.

    Caninus-Collars The wife. She said what are you going to do with him. He is so small. One day she comes home from her other job and says "oh, I missed you so much" runs past me and picks up our chi and is kissing his face to death.

  • Our next dog that we adopt might even be a Chihuahua after reading through this thread. We could carry them around in our pockets everywhere. A little pocket Chihuahua. Taking them with us to the store and back. To go get a pup of coffee in the morning. That's it, we're sold.

    omegagirl Didn't know as a kid we had a chihuahua and my aunt had one too... then, when I was asked to help my boy find a home, it was right after the Paris Hilton time where people had them in a purse... I was like H I No!

    One night with him and they were going to have to pull him from my de d hands.... Haha We had 18 wonderful years together. When the time is right, he will send me another, I know it.

    mrstoasterstruble I never wanted a small dog, let alone a chihuahua. They get such a bad rap, and I just followed along with it. Then, I wanted a small dog to be a companion for my collie, and I wanted her to match my collie. Enter Ginny. Never thought my soul dog would be a 6lb long-haired Chihuahua with so much sass it outweighs her body. ☑
