Overbearing mother ‘hijacks’ daughter's Valentine's Day dinner plans with her husband and son, mom guilt-trips her when she tries to put her foot down

Valentine's Day is the holiday to appreciate loved ones—platonic and romantic—and show them how much you care for them. When we're young, we make our moms and dads homemade Valentine's Day cards because our teacher makes us do so. In return, our parents gift us decadent chocolates and possibly, an adorable stuffed teddy bear that we'll be glued to until we hit puberty.

After we realize our parents aren't the only Valentines we can have on the planet, we start forming intimate relationships with others and expect privacy in those relationships. Some parents don't know how to let go, though, and that clinginess has the potential to mess up relationships formed in adulthood.
