There's something almost impressive about how some companies have turned lying into an art form. Job interviews are now elaborate performances, where every promise about hours, pay, and stability is just bait dangling on a hook. "Full-time with benefits" actually means "barely part-time with existential dread," and "growth opportunities" translates to "you'll grow your capacity to endure nonsense."

Corporate culture thrives on this kind of deception. It starts with the job listings, where buzzwords like "competitive" and "flexible" are sprinkled on like glitter, disguising the fact that the job may offer neither. The interview only takes the fantasy further. You'll be told exactly what you want to hear—plenty of hours, a supportive team, maybe even the possibility of moving up the ladder. What's left out is the fine print isn't important, just inconsistent schedules, constant over-hiring, and maybe fewer hours than it takes to sustain basic human life.
