Extremely rare cat born with 4 ears that was found abandoned in a box outside is now adopted and loved just as he is: 'Audio's ears do have a life of their own'

You may be surprised to know, but cats can have some unique genetic abnormalities, just like humans. Some of us can be born with things like super flexibility, or an incredible memory, or being born without fingertips. Cool things. Amazing things. Cats are the same. Some cats are born tiny and never grow up, staying the size of an itty bitty kitty forever. Other cats can be born with two noses, both of which are functional, they're just a little louder than most. Other cats are born with extra toe-beans - they're called polydactyl cats, and yes, they are absolutely adorable. 

And apparently, some cats can be born with an extra set of ears. Meet Audio, a cat who has one of the most fitting names that we have ever heard of. Because both of his ear sets are indeed functional, and apparently, his second ear set has a life of its own. The second set is a little smaller than the first, and it's most likely going to stay like that furrever, but you know what… we think it's kind of adorable.

    True Rescue EXTREMELY RARE so lend me your ears (snicker)! This kitten came into our shelter today with his 3 other siblings, and he has a rare genetic mutation having been born with FOUR EARS! You "heard" me right (snort)! The last kitten we were able to find research about that had 4 ears came from Turkey and was from 2 years ago.

    We will have him fully checked by a vet, but from what we know, the inner ear is completely normal and will cause no issues, other than having extra flaps to clean! We have named him Audio, and he is 8-9 weeks old, weighing just over 2 pounds. We'll videotape him soon and share his cuteness with everyone because this baby is simply ear-resistible (sorry, can't stop)!   • We don't know how anyone could possibly abandon a kitty like one. Abandoning any cat is baffling to us, yes, but a kitty this special? How dare they. It's a good thing that all of them were found. It means that they actually have a chance of living and thriving.

    True Rescue This post is long overdue, and you guys have been asking and asking for an update, so here it is...finally! Remember Audio, our 4-eared kitten wonder, that was put in a box with his siblings and left in a car lot right at the end of July?

    Well, here he is in all his glory, now 7 months old, and living his best life with 3 other fur siblings. Audio's ears do have a life of their own, and can twitch and "dance" here and there, making him quite the character, but they are probably as large as they are going to get now, as his "normal" ears are full grown. Audio's extra ears all connect to the same ear canal as his other ears, so

    there are no medical worries with having the extra ears. This is just a genetic trait that is extremely rare. We love how much you guys supported and loved Audio when he first arrived at our shelter, and we just really wanted you to know that he is in the best home now, and will never have to worry for anything the rest of his 4-earred life!   • Alright, so we do have to admit… we're very happy that the extra ears get to stay. Of course we would have been perfectly okay with it if they had to go for the kitty's health, but… yay. This is one of the coolest, cutest, most amazing things that we have ever seen a cat have, and now we know that we are going to get endless pictures of it as the kitty grows.
