The RTO floodgates have been opened, and office workers everywhere are livid about it. Remote work is great because it is convenient, but even more so, it's amazing because you don't have to share a workspace with unreasonable, obnoxious people. You might think that because your coworkers are great, most people's coworkers are also great. Such is not the case in most circumstances. Though manners are the golden standard, they are unfortunately not virtuous.

For some reason, folks think it's completely fine to clip their (toe)nails in open-concept offices and pop bubble wrap because they "need" to. Or, folks listening to political podcasts (which is definitely against some company code) out loud for everyone in a five-cubicle radius to hear. Working in an office makes you wonder about who raised these adult toddlers and if you have some unreasonable quirk you're not noticing. Whatever quirk that might be, it's probably not as annoying as the ones you're about to read below.

That might be a misspeak. “Quirks” are not synonymous with “pet peeves” and “distractions.” Usually, a quirky trait is something like giving your coworkers a high-five every morning. A pet peeve is toeing the line of “Is it natural, or are they doing this on purpose?" Example: Cracking one's knuckles while staring at the computer, trying to meet a work deadline. But a distraction… likely on purpose and they just don't care. See if you can categorize these stories into those three boxes.
