It's quite telling that he was willing to pay for her ticket and that she was not so keen on his compromise. She wanted her boyfriend there for easy money access when traveling, too.

It seems she was also testing her influence over our protagonist. If he would be willing to skip out on his dad's 90th birthday, she could really say that she has him wrapped around her finger. Thankfully, he's starting to get suspicious of her intentions.

"I feel like an ATM rather than a partner at this point": Entitled girlfriend expects 43-year-old boyfriend to pay for her trip abroad despite knowing he's been saving up for his dad's 90th birthday
How do you and your partner split expenses when abroad? Despite traveling together quite a bit, my boyfriend and I never really had a conversation where we shared the cost of the trip equally. We're a "whoever takes their wallet out first" type of couple. Neither of us wants to take advantage of the other and we love treating each other, so it usually ends up being something of a race. However, I know plenty of people that like to play fair, make a list of expenses, and Venmo each other for each little thing at the end of the trip.
In our story today, a man saving up for his father's 90th birthday is put in a difficult situation when his girlfriend suddenly grows homesick. The couple are from different countries and alternate visiting their home base together every year. Despite the fact that it is his "turn" to visit his family, she tries to convince him to change plans, stating that she doesn't want to go alone. However, he knows in his heart of hearts it's because he would be expected to pay for everything if he tagged along. Scroll down for the full story.
