Of course the protagonist and the other friend went ahead on the vacation. If they didn't it would be ridiculous. Unfortunately for the friend left behind, she has to pay out of pocket for her mistakes. Maybe this will teach her a much needed lesson how to be responsible for yourself in life. We all make mistakes, and sometimes we slip up and these things happen, but for some people it's a pattern. I have a feeling she's one of those people.

Whether you're the type who likes to go to a luxurious beach paradise in the summer to lay out in the sun all day drinking from a coconut, or backpack the wilderness, map in hand and making a fire every night, or if you prefer to wander the cold and dark crevices of an ancient European city, just discovering what you can find. Everyone has something they can appreciate about traveling, and who doesn't like some well-deserved PTO? Not everyone wants to travel abroad, or fly somewhere, but whether you're airborne or in 4 wheel drive, traveling is something everyone enjoys.
When you plan trips with others, you're affected by their mistakes, their moods, and their preferences. For me, I always preferred to travel alone. That way I can do whatever I want whenever I want.
