Her biggest feat was making a grown man cry and getting 8-weeks of paid severance. They offered her 6, but she figured, since this isn't her first rodeo (she was laid off at her previous job and has been on the job market for about 2 years), she would ask for a full two months severance instead. And guess what? She got it! Check out the entire lowdown below.

"Thank you so much to everybody asking for the full story… I don't really find it that interesting, but I'll give the people what they want… I'm actually used to looking at the positives and finding the silver lining. So there will be a silver lining in this.
So I worked retail for about two years and it's taken me, since I got laid off the first time, two years to find another corporate job. That is how hard it's been. So I was really excited for this job. I thought this was my way back in. I am in so much credit card debt and I was really excited to pay that off. I got the offer at the end of January and then it did take about three weeks for me to even start, because I had to give two weeks notice to my last retail job. Then it just so happened that I had a week off. So I basically had all of February free before I started, which I'm kind of annoyed about because I was banking on all this money.
So to walk you through the day that I got laid off. I wake up, it's day two, so excited. Doing my hair, makeup, and I get online and I see that there's a “quick chat” on my calendar. And I'm like, “that's weird.” I'm not dumb. I know what “quick chats” usually mean. And at first, I see the VP—that was my witness for the call—and ironically enough, he was actually on the list of people that I was supposed to onboard with. So there was a part of me that was really hoping that this was just a fluke and I would be able to be like, “oh, I thought you were laying me off, but you actually just wanted to meet me.” And then I looked a little closer and I noticed that the head of HR was the one who organised the call. And I was like, “that's a worse sign, actually.”
-
So I messaged my boss and I was like, “hey, is this an intro or, like, what?” And she texted me, which is another sign. She said that they had laid off a lot of people in the Europe and Asia offices, basically while we were sleeping. I still don't know how many people they actually laid off total. It was a lot. And actually, my boss and her boss got laid off, too. So she said, “I don't know anything. I don't know why this is on your calendar.” But shortly after we saw my appointment, she got invited to a chat at 11:15, so basically right after me and [then] she got the boot..
They gave me my termination date as two weeks from the day that I got laid off and they said that they would pay me that, [plus] they were giving me a month severance. So that's where the six weeks came from.
Because I was so [mentally] ready before the meeting [and] so ready to be in the mind space of getting laid off, I actually strategized with my friend beforehand what I should do. We agreed I should just ask for more. So we were like, “if they give you a month, ask for two months. Like, whatever.” So when I realised in the meaning that they were offering me six weeks, I was like, “okay, it's pretty easy to ask for two weeks more.” And that's what I did.
The funny thing about severance, is in the call, the woman said, “okay, I'll look into it, and I'll let you know.” There was no follow up. There was no, “hey, F Y I, we got this approved. You will be getting eight weeks.” I didn't find out what I was getting until I got my actual severance letter, and I did the math, and I was like, “oh, okay, I got eight weeks.” It was kind of like a work around. -
The other tea that I loved, and I wished I could show you guys, but obviously I couldn't…
The VP that was my witness—and I'm sorry to this man, but—he was in tears the whole time. And that's all I needed, you know? Eight weeks of pay and a man crying. Thank you. Bye. Like, I'm good. So he had a really bad day, and you know what? Karma will get him. But also, like, he's probably just as frustrated about this whole situation as we all are. So, that kind of made me feel a little bit better. And when I said my line, “I'm not gonna lie, this is not what you expect on your second day.” [He] put his head in his hands [and] he was like, “oh, my god.” You could tell that he knew that they really *ucked up, and they did. And you know what? That's all I need.

The thing that s*cks the most is that it took me from applying to getting the offer about three months, and I had already been looking for a year and a half. So I'm a little nervous about what's gonna happen. Saw a lot of you in the comments and you're all going through layoffs, too, and so you're not alone. It s*cks out here and there's no amount the career TikTok coaches can say to make it feel better. I just figured, like, I have not heard of anybody getting laid off on day two, and if it's gonna happen to me, we're gonna turn this into a thing.
I think it's insane and sad that I'm back at square one, but I'm actually really grateful for the amount of money that they gave me and I'm grateful for advocating for myself. So if nothing else, I hope that somebody takes away that from this whole experience."
