When I bought my house last year, one of the things I was most excited about was the pool. I take care of it, I pay for the upkeep, and now that summer's here, I've been using it almost every day.
  • A few weeks ago, my neighbor Karen asked if her kids (8, 10, and 12) could use my pool since they don't have one. I wasn't thrilled about the idea, but I agreed as
  • long as they followed a few simple rules ask before coming over, have an adult present, and don't trash the pool or try to sneak in when I'm not home.
  • At first, it was fine. The kids would swim, have fun, and leave. But then, little things started happening. I caught them in my backyard without permission.
  • One day, I came home from work and found them swimming alone, no adults in sight. Another time, they were throwing food into the pool. I brought it up to Karen, and
  • she just brushed it off, saying, Oh, they just got excited. She promised it wouldn't happen again. It did.
  • The final straw was last Saturday. I woke up early, stepped outside, and there they were in my pool again, completely unsupervised.

  • That was it. I told them to get out and went straight to Karen's house. I told her her kids were no longer allowed in my pool.
  • She flipped out, calling me dramatic and selfish because it's just a pool, and they're just kids having fun. But I don't care. It's
  • my property, my responsibility, and I gave them more than enough chances. If I can't trust them to respect my rules, why should I keep letting them in?
  • Now some neighbors think I'm being harsh, but honestly, how many chances was I supposed to give? Am I really the bad guy for not wanting to deal with this anymore? AITA?
  • pupsymomma NTA - time to put a lock on the gate and install cameras along with a sign saying no trespassing or private property to cover yourself in case something does happen.
  • Fantastic_Mecha... NTA your pool, your property, your rules. Your neighbors are entitled jerks that need a clear dose of reality. She can take them to the YMCA if they need to go swimming that badly
  • princesspurrito36 Get no trespassing signs and likely a camera. They won't stop. Nta
  • KittyC217 NTA. We get post like this all the time. You had basic rules that both the Karen and the children did not follow. It is time to put it in writing that the kids can no longer come of and get some cameras. If they come over again call the police. Good luck
  • Prior_Pomegranat... Tell them your insurance policy prohibits unsupervised minors.
  • sandgroper_westie I wouldn't let them, from an insurance perspective. Her entitlement is nuts.
