Employees always know when their bosses need them more than the other way around. In this instance, we have a country club employee whose hours were recently cut in an effort to save on overall costs. However, he knew that a busy workday was coming up and that he would likely be asked to come in during the hours he used to work…

This story serves as yet another example of an occasion when bosses make rash decisions to save money while not considering the practicality of the situation long-term. A good manager is able to strike a balance between what is immediately necessary and what will be crucial down the road. This manager certainly does not fit that description…

We cannot blame this country club employee for being sour about having the first and last hours of his typical shift cut every day. However, now that spring is approaching and more and more guests are using the club, the employee could foresee that he would be asked to work outside of these new hours. While his family would likely want him to take them up on that request so he could make more money, something was not sitting right with the employee, and we cannot help but agree.
On principle, he should be asking for overtime at the very least. Otherwise, good luck finding someone willing to work those extra hours!
