Girlfriend takes sick 15-year-old cat away from her neglectful ex who lied about taking the feline to the vet for years, now happily celebrates the kitty's 16th birthday and improved health: 'My goal is to give her a good life until the end.'

It is well-known at this point that it's the cat that chooses the human and not the other way around. And it is known that cats tend to make the right decisions when it comes to that. When a cat adopts you, it's usually because the cat distribution system is working its meowjoc, setting the cat up with the purrfect home for the rest of its life. Usually. Sometimes, misfortune strikes, and the chosen human passes before the cat. Then… all kinds of things can happen.

In this case, the 15-year-old cat was passed down to the owner's son, and this son, instead of being kind and respected, neglected this cat. He didn't care for the cat's well-being, didn't care about respecting his mom's wishes and taking care of the cat properly. But the cat distribution system did not give up on a kitty as good as this one, and this terrible son was blessed with a kind girlfriend - who did the right thing and finally, after ending the relationship with him, took the cat with her.

  • Look, we get that this cat was not “his” to begin with, that it was his mom's, but that doesn't justify neglecting her for years. If he didn't want her, he should not have taken her, or he should have rehomed her. This was unacceptable. We're so thankful she's in better hands now.

    I feel weird bragging about her birthday coming up but I am also glad my ex left her in my care. She was miserable with extremely high bl d pressure, no regular vet visits, and had kidney disease (when I took her, she had early stages). Honestly, I think her blod pressure had been high for years (her eyes looked painfully swollen) and I think that caused the kidney disease.

    I also don't know her past because my ex has no medical records for her. She was taken in as a kitten and was his late mom's cat until she passed. Luna has a healed over broken rib so I'm guessing there is a reason she used to hide a lot.

    Kind of s ks not knowing. My ex also allowed her grooming to get horrible. She had several 1x1.5" mats on her body and was severely underweight. She now keeps up with her grooming and I just assist as needed. She also gained much needed weight.

    She's so stinking snuggly and has adjusted well to her new routine. She has two pup siblings who annoy her but she knows how to put them in their place lol.

    My goal was never to keep her alive against all odds. I took her in to get her out of clear pain and have improved her quality of life in the process. My goal is to give her a good life until the end.

    Milk_Man370 i despise people who abandon animals...it dosnt take a lot to find somewhere for them to go, wether thats a new owner or a shelter. if u cant do hat bare-minimum, then ur just a lazy f who probably cant wipe their own a right. for f s sake, thers homeless people out ther who take better care of animals.

    NoBit6693 OP I told him he couldn't take the animals to his sister's house and he told everyone I was keeping them from him. He blocked me and my dad tried for weeks to make arrangements. My dad had enough and finally just asked for their records. That's how they were left to be in my care.

    Luna had major depre s on for a month. I wouldn't even let him into the house because I wasn't putting her back through that pain. (Him getting his stuff was a long drawn out story. He wanted me to leave my home while he got his stuff and I said f no)

    NoBit6693 OP I'm mad at myself because I told him 4 years ago her eyes looked bad. He lied and told me how he took her to the vet. I told my vet and she said if any of it were true, her eyes would have already bursts. I believed he was caring for her so I do hold a lot of guilt.

    NoBit6693 OP They always made it seem like it was such a shocker she was as old as she was. She's my first cat. I remember her being 11 when we met and everyone was shocked she was still alive. Sounds like I might get a few more years with my baby girl

  • This is very true. Cats can live to a very old and happy age, as long as they are in a loving, happy environment. The fact that she has lived this long while being neglected just shows how resilient and full of life she is. We wish you both many happy years together.
