There is a very special and small selection of people in the world who act out of pure desire to help other people, without wanting anything in return. Despite that one episode in Friends in which Joey claims there is no such thing as a selfless act, there our those who prove every day that this is not entirely true. People who sacrifice a lot of themselves for the sake of others, of the people they love.

When you read stories about acts of kindness people do for others, that go unappreciated, it makes you wonder why they did it in the first place. Why do they give out so much of themselves without getting so much as a 'thank you' in return?

You can find all kinds of excuses for this question, but maybe the lesson to be learned here is that even if you want to help someone you love, sometimes it is best if you don't. Maybe that is the only way you can truly help them be better.
