'Leave immediately!': Guy's girlfriend invites her sister's family to his place without permission, kids trash his apartment

There are reasons why you may give your significant other a set of keys to your place. This is not one of those reasons.

Most of the time, getting your keys copied for your partner is a big step in and of itself. You're not necessarily ready to move into together, but it is a statement that implies you expect to stick around for the foreseeable future. These gestures also imply a sense of trust and a desire to let that other person into your life just a bit more. At the same time, all it is at the end of the day is a set of keys for ease of access and convenience. It's not a promise for anything else any time soon, and it certainly should not be interpreted as an open invitation to invite your family over without permission.

  • Imagine walking into your home at the end of the day expecting peace and quiet, only to discover screaming children that aren't your own messing around with half-eaten plates of food splattered all over the living room floor. Not exactly the calm residence you had created for yourself. This author had to deal with this unfortunate circumstance after his girlfriend invited her sister's entire family other without so much as a head's up. Moreover, this isn't even her place! One has to wonder why her apartment wasn't an option??
