Aloof dog turns clingy the moment owner gets pregnant, becomes her fluffy bodyguard

Bringing new life into the world is quite the magical thing. It manages to turn bad habits into good ones, kids into adults (hopefully), and single people into families. So it should come as little surprise that our canine compadres are also susceptible to change when their pawrent gets pregnant. While not all puppers become doting doggos when their fur momma gets pregnant, but those who do can experience a complete pawsonality change.

A dramatic departure from the cold indifference they used to have towards their mommas, which turns into obsessive protection and comforting. From never following them anywhere, to being adamant about following them everywhere, it can be quite the intense shift. And that is the story of this woman who for years received barely anything more than apathy from her partner's doggo, until she got pregnant, and the script flipped itself.

    I swear since just before I got my positive test, this dog has been acting off. Moira is a cat in a dog's body—she's aloof, she wants pets and affection on her terms, and she is NOT a cuddler. Now I'm pretty sure she'd crawl into my skin if I let her.

    She's on the bath mat. Toilet? In between my feet. Couch? Between me and my husband. God forbid - another dog comes near me — she laid her friend the out for daring to jump on my leg. She's always been high strung (Clomicalm is a life saver), but now she's channeled her crazy into me.

  • Well, one thing is for sure, when that baby comes out into the world it will have a best friend and a security guard all rolled into one. There will be no hooman, cat or critter of any kind that will be allowed within 3 feet of the tiny fella.

  • You’ve got to love how relaxed this commenter is. Like it is clear that not even a moment of madness has arisen in her household and her feelings towards her doting doggo are as they were before. She knows nothing of the madness the OP had to endure when her dog went from not caring to caring a little too much.

    Interestingly when I was only about 12 weeks along and obviously not showing AT ALL, my sister's horse kept bopping her nose on my belly. It was amazing that she knew.

    mycatsnameistilly My dog pretty much stopped caring about me when I was pregnant. He's supposed to be my dog, I got him before ever meeting my partner, but as soon as I was pregnant, I didn't matter. He stopped. listening to me, barely came to me for love unless I had treats for him. Hurt my feelings lol

    letsstoptalking Our dog was always a little clingy, but she's gotten even more so. Now she follows me to the bathroom and tries to sleep either between my legs or right next to my face, which is new. She's about 20 pounds, so while she's not huge, but not exactly small enough to make it comfortable for either of us.

    me to wake up in the morning to go downstairs when she has never done that before. Worst of all, my husband often works nights and she barks at every bump in the night like shes my bodyguard. Lol also my boy dogs couldn't care less.

    WiseBat My older dog has noticed I think and will post himself on guard behind me when I'm in the kitchen cooking or in the bathroom the younger one has always been clingy so it's harder to tell if he knows yet.
