"My coworker faked having a twin to skip meetings"

tbh i still cant believe this really happened, i work in a mid sized marketing company, mostly remote, but usually twice a month we do in office meetings. there is this guy lets call him Travis, who is always a little off, friendly but kind of slippery when it comes to accountability, he kept missing meetings always bringing up some weird excuse.

One day someone on our team sees Travis in the break room during a meeting he was supposedly "sick" for. When confronted, he straight up says "oh thats my twin brother, Trevor, he just stopped by" we were like ??

over the next few weeks, Trevor kept showing up randomly. The only difference was that he wore glasses and a beanie, thats it lol. He'd avoid eye contact, not speak much and just say "I'm Trevor" if anyone asked. HR got involved because someone reported a non employee hanging around, long story short no twin, never was.

Dude just created a fake brother so he wouldnt have to go to meetings and thought the glasses would be enough. Travis got written up and now we all say "pulling a Trevor" when someone tries to sneak out of work

dotplaid Help me with the logic. If Trevor went to a meeting instead of Travis, Travis would still be in the meeting. Oh, so maybe Travis' boss pops into the break room and says, "Let's go to that meeting, Travis," and gets a, "No can do, I'm Trevor. Travis is out sick," response? Oy vey.

This was an excessive amount of deception for one person to pull off

Fractals88 Um, I would fire anyone willing to go through this lengths to avoid work/deceive people

TeachBS What a weirdo. My first question would've been "what is your brother doing here when you are here?" absolutely makes no sense. Don't ever invite that guy to your house. His twin brother will probably steal from you.

rnewscates73 That should be grounds for immediate dismissal.

yelazah I had a teacher in high school who told everyone he had a twin and if he didn't greet us outside it was probably his twin and not him and we shouldn't take it personally. We dumba es believed it ofc and it took me up to my mid twenties when I thought of it again to realize he just didn't wanna interact with his students outside of school

awfuleverything This is one of the greatest stories I've ever read on here.

JunoEve1 My bet because it is a mostly remote job is that Trevor is overemployed. He is probably working two jobs at once and made up the Twin to excuse his behavior of trying to juggle both jobs at once.
