When we were kids, we were always taught that being a good friend meant that you would be there for each other, to always offer a helping hand when they are in times of need. You are taught that friends do whatever they can to lift their loved ones off the ground, and that mantra becomes one of the most valuable guidelines to every friendship out there.

Except, no one actually tells you that friendships are a lot more complicated than that. 

Growing up you learn, usually the hard way, that most friendships do not follow this guideline whatsoever. Offering a helping hand to someone else, even though it is the right thing to do, can also cost you a lot more than you are offering to pay. People, even those you consider friends, will take a lot from you, as soon as you show a slight sign that you are willing to give.

A friendship that is built on those foundations is not a great friendship at all, and the story below is a perfect example of that.
