  • "Entitled Tourist Tries to Hijack My Guided Tour Because ‘She Paid Too’"

I recently took a solo trip to Portugal and signed up for this awesome small-group historical walking tour max 6 people, local
  • guide, lots of hidden gems off the beaten path. I love stuff like this because it's chill and you get real stories instead of the usual touristy script.
  • We're about 20 minutes into the tour when this woman who was not in our group starts tailing us. At first I thought she was just coincidentally going the same direction. Nope.
  • She starts asking the guide questions. At first, he's polite and answers a few. Then she starts correcting him. Loudly. Talking
  • over him to give her own version of the history. And I'm not exaggerating she literally turned to the group and said:
  • "I've done a lot of reading about this city. You guys don't need to listen to everything he says."

  • I think we were all too stunned to respond for a moment. The guide kindly told her, "Ma'am, this is a private tour, and it's only for people who booked in advance. You're welcome to join a public one at the main square."
  • She said "Well I'm already here. I paid for a flight, didn't I? This is a public city I'll walk where I want."
  • She kept following us for another ten minutes while loudly ranting about "elitist travel culture" and how "real travelers don't need
  • guides anyway." Eventually the guide just paused and said we'd wait until she got bored and left.
  • She finally stormed off when she realized no one was giving her the attention she clearly needed.
  • Plenty_Ad498 Honestly, the wildest part wasn't that she joined in it was how confidently she tried to take over. Like imagine crashing a tour you didn't pay for and then acting like the guide is your intern.
  • Useless890 If real travelers don't need guides, then why was she following one around? J
  • crujones43 I was on a tour about a year ago in peru. This one jacka would get giddy while our tour guide was saying something. Like literally bouncing up and down. He would then gleefully correct the tour guide and act like he was so smart. Everyone hated him.
  • Outkast Atliens Oh man. It's not one of my strengths dealing with these people. I would have made a scene and confronted her. Not proud. Trying to work on it. I just let this sh slide, it drives me up the wall! kin
  • rakfink You all should have pointed at her shouting "pickpocket"!
  • SteMelMan I wonder if this lady saw "A Real Pain" and decided rudely interrupting a paid tour guide was acceptable behavior? At least Kieran Culkin was part of the tour group in the movie.
