Why do some people not have any respect for assigned seats?

Twenty years ago, when people had to physically go to a movie theater 30 minutes before the movie started, get in line, and buy the tickets at the stand, they could not have known which seats they would end up with. It could be quite a bummer to go all this way only to learn that the theater is almost full and the only seats left were by the exit. 

Back then, there was also no way of knowing whether other seats might be taken or not.

Today, however, you book everything online, and you can see exactly how occupied the theater is, what seats are taken, and which seats are open for grabs, and you can decide for yourself where you want to sit, and book those tickets on the spot.

So why do people still have to fight over seats these days? What is so hard with respecting the system and sitting in the seats you booked for yourself?
