Person spends exactly 1 dollar and 25 cents to adopt a 14-year-old ginger cat who was abandoned by his previous family, now encourages others to give senior cats a chance too: 'One of the chillest cats we've ever adopted'

One of our mottos here at ICHC is: adopt, don't shop. Because we truly believe that adopting a cat from a shelter is a pure experience that you simply do not quite get when you buy an expensive cat. Sure, the expensive cat might have an interesting fur pattern or some other trait, but at the end of the day, all cats are equal in the love that they are capable of giving you, whether they cost you $1000 or… one dollar and twenty-five cents. 

$1.25 - that is how much this kitty cost this person. Technically, they bought this cat, but we think that this time, the feeling they have is going to be exactly the one that we are talking about, especially now that we know that this senior kitty was abandoned by its old owners. The cat deserved a second chance at life, and we know it is going to get the best retirement years in its new home.

    natanyad OP We were told the family moved and couldn't take him. He came with a huge bag of toys - someone spoiled him. Our vet thought he was in decent shape, he's on twice daily thyroid meds now - which he is learning to spit out.

  • Look, we understand that this can sometimes happen, but it is still so, so heartbreaking. To leave an elderly cat like this, after it has known only one family for its entire life… that's something that we wish we will never be in a position of having to do. You should do everything in your power to keep them.

    FinvaraSidhe 100%. All cats regardless of age deserve a safe and loving home. But so often elder cats are overlooked. My current cat was almost 10 when I adopted her. She is a loving cuddler. I know I will have less time with her but that just means she will get twice the love
