‘He was never going to tell her’: Kid exposes father's affair to their mom while on an upstate family vacation, father blames kid for ‘destroying the family’

No matter how young or old you are, finding out that one of your parents booked a one-way ticket to betrayal-ville with no intention of coming clean about their bad habits to your other parent is a rather difficult pill to swallow. On one hand, you're likely relieved that you figured out your parent is a raging infidel, but on the other hand… You don't want to believe it's true. Saying things out loud makes them real, after all, and what's worse than breaking the news to your mom that Dad has a girlfriend?

You can try to reason with your father, if you'd like. Usually, that type of logical thinking does not fare well with a guilty cheater who would rather lose all of their limbs than come clean about their selfish behavior. Sometimes, you have to rip the band-aid off. It's not fun, but it's necessary—the truth is what your mother deserves, and more time between finding out and coming clean will only add a heaping tablespoon of salt to the wound.
