Flatmate Anna walked through the door last week in new shoes and bargain sweaters, bragging the haul only cost three hundred. The boast felt harmless until the fridge looked like a crime scene, and her 23-year-old, financially responsible roommate's leftovers were missing. Budget confession followed: the food fund was gone, eaten by retail therapy, and payday sat a week away.
