'He let me grab him and was just so afraid': Man rescues tiny terrified kitten that was thrown out of a car on the highway, and the drivers around him surprise by being kind and patiently waiting while he was gently approaching the kitten

One of the things that we love the most about writing for ICHC is that we get to see the best of humanity on a daily basis. We get to see stories of people helping cats, of people saving cats, of people giving cats a second chance at life… just because. Because it's the right thing to do, because they are simply good people who care. But sometimes, for the good people to shine, the bad people need to have their time in the spotlight as well, and the person who threw this kitten out of a car and left it on the highway is definitely one of the bad ones. 

It's lucky that this person was out there in time to rescue this kitten, but it is not luck that he did. That was a choice. And it was also the choice of the cars behind him to give this man the time to do what was right and save this little fluffball. There are lots of people out there who are good. It is simply our job to give them the spotlight they deserve and encourage more people to do the same.

    I've had him for about 6 weeks now and he's a sweetie. I was lucky to see him in the road and the car behind me saw I was trying to grab him and didn't honk or get irritated when I stopped and put on my flashers. He let me grab him and was just so afraid.

    There's no way he could have gotten in the middle of the highway (6 lanes) unless someone tossed him out of a vehicle. He's settled in nicely and is the sweetest boy.

  • The cruelty that some people have in their hearts… we will never not be shocked by it. There are so many other options before tossing a cat out of a car. Endless options. And every single one of them would have been better. The only good thing that came out of it was you finding him and giving him the furrever home he actually deserves.

    thepetoctopus OP He makes 4 cats now. The one in the photo is the oldest and he's chill with everyone and everything. The other two aren't the biggest fans but Theodore gives them their space and they seem ok with it.

    Comfortable-Fly-5510 He is gorgeous, and I hope you will get many wonderful years with your new overlord! That said, I would like to point out one other way he could have gotten in the middle of six lanes of traffic: if he was playing around a parked car, decided to hide somewhere in the chassis (engine compartments have lots of hidey-holes) when it was started, and fell out on the highway.

    But no matter how he got there, it certainly was not a safe place for him, and I'm glad you spotted the goober and got him somewhere he can be safe and loved. (Note: Please make sure you get him to the vet to get those trouble puffs removed if you haven't already. Kitty will live a happier life without those.)

  • We can already tell, just by these few pictures that you have shows, that this kitty is going to be an absolute troublemaker. And he's probably not even going to do these things on purpose. It's just going to be his purrsonality. And you are going to enjoy every second of it, whether you want to or not.

    thepetoctopus OP The first two days were pretty rough for him. He was extremely scared and I made sure to give him churu every time I handled him. By day 3 he decided I was his person and when I had to leave the room (he was kept in quarantine for 2 weeks) he would get upset. Now he has no fear of anything.
