Cancer is the worst. There's no easy way to face it, and oftentimes, it can be a health tribulation that traumatizes the whole family.
While this teenager refused to shave his head to support his kid cousin's diagnosis, he found it performative and ultimately useless in her plight. Instead, he opted to be supportive in other ways, like showing up for appointments and visiting her in the hospital during chemo, but his aunt was not satisfied with his “disengagement” from the family head-shaving ritual. Instead of being glad for her show of support across the whole family, she called him out as a black sheep for his refusal, turning a wholesome act of selflessness into a comparison game that nobody wins.

A teenage boy was particularly obsessed with his long hair and spent years cultivating his persona alongside his haircut, and even though he wanted to support his 7-year-old cousin's cancer diagnosis, he refused. Noticing that his family was performatively shaving their heads in solidarity with the little girl, he was too attached to his own hair to let go of the one thing he liked about his appearance.
But his pushy aunt wouldn't take no for an answer…
