Young boy falls in love with "stray" cat who visits him daily; vet finds his microchip and reveals he's been abandoned for almost a year, so his new family fights landlord to keep him: 'He is the greatest cat I've ever had'

Stories like these are why we both love hoomanity and also think that most of it should be thrown in the garbage with yesterday's tuna.

The good news, feline fam, is that this story has a purrfectly happy ending. The kitty below has expurrienced both the best hoomans and also the worst ones. They've seen what happens to cats when people don't care about them, and they've also seen what true love looks like. We hope their rough days on the streets are finally over!

They thought he was just a neighborhood stray, but he wiggled his way into their hearts, especially the heart of the family's young son. They had daily play sessions in the yard, but they noticed he kept getting thinner. So, they took him to the vet, and it turned out that he actually belonged to someone. Thus began this family's fight to adopt this cute kitty. They fought with the previous owners, and then with their landlord. But in the end… we think it was all worth it.

    Look at this cat. LOOK AT HIM. He is the sweetest, the snuggliest, the chillest, most good natured cat ever to cat. He was a stray. At first, we thought he was someone's cat they just let outside. But he started getting thinner. He had a flea collar. He is declawed.

    Landlord said YES! We take the cat to the vet. He has a microchip. Vet says they'll keep him while they try to contact the owner. We go home in tears, we love him already.

    Vet calls the next morning. Which was this morning. They tried many times to call the owner, who just kept hanging up on them. They came in this morning to a voice message from the owner saying they gave the cat to someone else, and that person just "let him go" BACK IN OCTOBER. This sweet, innocent, DECLAWED HOUSE CAT was outside for almost a whole year!

    I have my doubts about their story. I'm willing to bet there is no other person and the owner made up that story to avoid abandonment charges, which come with a hefty fine and potential jail time where I'm from.

    Anyway, this is our new cat. His name is Ghost. He is the greatest cat I've ever had. He's almost 6 years old. He shows some behavioral signs of ab e which does not surprise me after all this. We love him. We hate people.

  • A lot of people have pets that don't deserve them. That's the unfortunate truth of the world. All we can do is hope that they try their best to give them the best life pawssible. And for the ones who don't, we'll always be there to rescue them if they need it.

    Spiritual_Being 5845 .7h ago Get the chip number from the veterinarian and then contact the microchip company about transferring ownership to your name. The company will contact the previous owners for permission, but if they don't want the cat back they should agree pretty quickly.
