If we are being honest with ourselves, most of us have lives that are not all that exciting. We inevitably have challenges and the stuff that stresses us out, whether that is paying the bills or having to call the doctor. Most of the time, though, our existence is hardly a blockbuster plot. This is OK! If the majority of the population were living on a rollercoaster, nothing would ever get done. 

Still, that doesn't mean that we don't deserve a little manageable excitement now and then. People seek this out in different ways, but one of the more common ones nowadays has to be memes. These tidbits of humor give us that dopamine hit we are looking for while enabling us to get back to whatever it was we were doing beforehand without a hitch. They give us a peek into a goofy alternate reality that we keep coming back to.
