You know what? No. I draw the line here. You want to put a bathtub in the middle of your bedroom? Fine. You want 12 sinks in your kitchen and a fridge mounted to the ceiling? Go for it. Live your chaotic design dreams. But stairs? You don't mess with stairs.

Do you have any idea how dangerous it is to mess around with stair design? There's actual research - research! - that shows if you shave just a few millimeters off the height of a step, people trip and fall. That's how sensitive it is. And then I see these pictures - these cursed, reckless, rage-inducing staircases - and I feel my blood pressure rise.

Transparent stairs? Wavy stairs? Mirror-finish stairs on a 75-degree incline? You want people to break their necks in style, is that it? You want your guests to experience a full-body panic attack every time they walk to the second floor?

Just make stairs. Like, actual stairs. Ones you can walk on without activating your fight-or-flight response. Until then, enjoy these 34 stair designs that should come with a waiver, a helmet, and a good lawyer.
