Moving away for college is an experience that everyone should have. A young, scared student becomes a full-grown adult, self-actualized and bright-eyed, ready for the world with their heart on their sleeve. They no longer rely on Dad to pick them up from the football game or expect Mom to pack them lunch before school. It's bittersweet, sure, but nothing beats the first taste of real freedom when you go away to college and sweep up an apartment with one of your best friends. I remember those days fondly. What about you?
What made the experience worthwhile was that I was away from family. I love them, don't get me wrong—but I needed to be completely alone to understand who I was becoming and to get the full experience away. The student in this next story had that experience, until her father insisted that her estranged stepsister move into the college apartment she is renting this year.
The student refuses because she already has a housemate, yet her father persists. He tries to use his financial contributions to his advantage, but the student's biological mother sees right through these tactics. Scroll below to read the entire story.
