Halloween is a magical time of the year. As a kid trick or treating on Halloween night, it actually felt like the world had shifted into a spiritual plane, with houses up and down the street decorated to almost completely unrecognizable shapes, enhanced and heightened by lengthening shadows, smoke machines, and all sorts of spooky decorations. Dozens of children in a myriad of costumes roam the street, running between houses, while parents wander up and down sidewalks with their young children.
It's a grand time, and one any kid looks forward to, so you really have to be some kind of miserable grinch to want to take that away from an entire neighborhood, but that was what this resident shared happened. After 25 years of holding the HOA presidency, the older gentleman who was beloved by the community sadly passed away, leaving the position needing to be filled. A neighbor who seemed to be well-liked enough took the position but soon showed her true colors. Halloween had been a treasured and widely celebrated event in the neighborhood, celebrated in a similar way to my own memories as a child. This did "not go over well," and she was quickly deposed and effectively forced to move.
