39 Behind the Scenes Snapshots of Back To The Future

Back to the Future is one of the most icon films of the 80s. Marty McFly and Doc Brown have become celebrated figures in themselves and have remained so deeply engrained in our minds that they inspired the hit TV show Rick and Morty. But today we are taking a look behind the scenes of Back to the Future to see what it was like making these seminal masterpieces and what it took back in the 80s to trick the mind into thinking that actual time travel existed.

Through this deep dive behind the camera, we will get to take a look at the intimate moments that went down on set, the incredibly creative special effects that were used to create some of the most magical movie moments and of course several oddities that negate our impression of certain characters from the movies. So strap in and set your DeLorean for 1980.

  • This is pretty dang wild to see with the perspective we have on modern day shooting techniques. To think that this scene today would have been handled by a drone, or in the most manual case a single cameraman with a stabilizer. Heck, Marty might have even been given a GoPro to wear if this was shot today.

  • Part of the magic of these old films is how they used all sorts of physical tricks to make us believe almost anything. Today, this shot would have been made 100% using computer generated images. But back in the 80s, you made a tiny model, set it on fire and shot from the roof of a car to make it look like you shot it from a helicopter.
