Kid bumped into me at the grocery store and his mother handled it in the worst way possible

Last weekend I was grocery shopping and I was walking down the aisle when all of a sudden a child that was running between the aisles
  • 03
bumped into me. I guess he must have been around 8 years old. Now netiher one of us fell or anything, but for the
  • 04
child it was quite the bump, he stumbled backwards a few steps. He looks up and says "sorry mister". Just as I was about to say 'its okay
  • 05
buddy' his mother shows up behind him, grabs him by the wrists and leads him away. I hear her say "Dont apologise, its his mistake he didnt see you."

This actually shocked me. This child was behaving perfectly as any polite human being would, yet his mother is steering him
  • 07
towards r de behaviour. The mother has obviously been entitled for who knows how long. Nothing is ever her fault, everyone makes mistakes but her.
  • 08
But it saddens me that this child is now growing up to be just like her. He is learning this entitled behaviour and his politeness is being driven away.

Kat_Hglt The fact that he apologized in the first place makes me think he has at least someone in his life who teaches him how to behave properly, and he might
  • 11
understand by himself later how his mother is mistaken. I hope so anyway. He wouldn't be the first kid in history to be ashamed of his parent's terribly entitled and obnoxious behavior.

alii66E OP Yeah that makes sense actually.
  • 13
Whityehinkinaboot I would have met them again and said, "hey kiddo, well done for having wonderful manners. Way better than your mama's!"
  • 14
alii66E OP Oh no I am not the confronting type of person.... maybe that would have been best tho
  • 15
Slight-Jaguar-2102 Nah, people will offer all sorts of "should've said" comebacks and whit from the safety of their keyboards. You have no idea how that mom would've reacted. Letting things go or picking your battles IRL is legit, you're good IMO.

Character Trouble 708 An example of why people are starting to hate being around other people's kids .......

snickerssmores My ex husband always told the kids and I that "only weak people apologize". However, I was raised to respect others. Luckily, I got my children away before he indoctrinated them with the same nonsense.

Kakashisith So now kids are being taught to never say sorry and blame others ??
  • 19
fraydawg2001 The reality here is that the kid likely apologizes very frequently to his mom who is never wrong so apologizing isn't an issue for him. Likely very little to do with being polite and more likely condition of the environment he is raised in.
