'She couldn’t stand that I got engaged first': Woman's 7-year rivalry with her future brother-in-law's girlfriend escalates after they get engaged 3 days following her own engagement

Competition between siblings is, for better or for worse, common, but not enough folks talk about the competition that most certainly exists between the significant others of those siblings. It's an understandable but unnecessary phenomenon that only adds further pressure to the family members involved. In this instance, a newly engaged bride-to-be found herself embroiled in a rivalry with the woman dating her fiancé's twin brother, and the rivalry does not appear to be ending anytime soon.

I wish I could say that I haven't seen this kind of familial tension among friends of my own, but I have. A friend of mine always seems to be on a similar timeline with her siblings when it comes to major life events. They moved in with their partners around the same time. They got engaged around the same time and got married within a few months of each other. They even decided to have children around the same time. While both parties wouldn't necessarily admit that there is some sort of rivalry and jealousy happening here, the facts speak for themselves. The core of the drama lies with the older sibling constantly feeling threatened that her younger sister is going to reach certain "milestones" before her. This, of course, perpetuates the myth that we can measure success based on someone's marital or family status. While an objective party like myself can easily see the flaws in this dynamic, it's not exactly something that you can easily undo when you're living it.

What sets this story apart from the one I have witnessed in my life is that the rivalry at the center is not between the siblings (though I'm sure something's going on there) but rather between their partners. Regardless, the effects that this feud is having on all involved has led to one couple receiving no invite to the other couple's wedding. Yikes!

We should address the immaturity of the twin brothers in this tale as well. The fact that they would let their significant others feud for so long and have it get to the point where one is not inviting the other to their wedding speaks to the brothers' inability to properly dissipate the tension. To make matters worse, the twins work at the same company together. They are deeply involved in one another's lives, and yet they are letting their fiancés destroy their relationship? Seriously? It's time for these brothers to stand up for each others as well as for their partners!
