  • Entitled Neighbor Demands I Move My Fence Because Her View Matters More

A couple of months ago, I bought my first house. It's nothing fancy, but it's got a small backyard, and one of the first things I did was put up a wooden privacy fence so my dog could run around without bothering anyone.
  • Cue my next-door neighbor Linda who came over the day after the fence was finished. She was holding a mug like she was about to give me friendly new neighbor vibes... nope.
  • She asked if I would mind moving my fence back about six feet. I asked her why I would do that. She told me it blocked her view from her kitchen window and she liked to look out at the trees, and that if I moved it back, I'd still have plenty of yard.
  • I explained as politely as I could that the fence was entirely on my property line since I had the survey done, and moving it would literally give her six more feet of my yard for free. She said she had lived there for 15 years and had always had that view, so it was basically hers.
  • I laughed, couldn't help it, and told her no. Since then she has "accidentally" thrown her leaves and branches over the fence twice, and last week I caught her trying to peek over with a step ladder. When I confronted her, she said if I weren't so selfish, she wouldn't have to do it.
  • Commenters came up with strategies to deal with her.

  • rosygiggleswish OP 51m ago Lmao honestly that's the level of logic she's working with, so it might actually make sense to her.
  • • jadasgrl 50m ago She's not looking at the trees she's busy stalking you.
  • Careful_Drama405 · 51m ago . Record her and call the city on her a
  • . EatPizzaOrDieTrying ⚫ 51m ago Get cameras and next time she peeks over, spray her face full blast with a water hose.

  • Skwizgar1019 • 32m ago . That's when I'd call the police for harassment, and ' vandalism, honestly - it's not worth confronting someone like that. If she's not paying mortgage and property taxes on the lot, she has zero say and needs to be put in her place.
  • I also agree with getting a camera, but if you don't want to go through the hassle of putting up an actual camera, they make dummy cameras with a flashing red LED that are actually pretty convincing
  • Creative-Sun6739 33m ago Wow, the audacity to really come up and ask you to move your fence, like what?? Like you're seriously just going to uproot the fence and move it back for her??? I would've laughed at her too.
  • You might want to get a ring. camera and point it towards the part of the fence that's next to her yard. Just so you can capture her craziness on video because don't put it past her to damage your fence when you're not around.
  • Punk-moth. 45m ago Raise the fence higher
  • -tacostacostacos 24m ago . She owns the land, not the view
  • Flashy Habit3030 • 46m ago Lol! Keep throwing the branches back over the fence and put up a camera that points down the property line. (Not pointing in her yard.) Yes, I'm petty like that. Tell Linda if she continues looking into your yard you'll call the police for trespassing. (I doubt police will do anything.)
  • Khahtt 20m ago • I'm reading this as my YouTube video changes to an lan Runkle/Runkle of the Bailey video from last year about Naomi Arbobbi and her claim to the view that was "blocked" by a clear divider. (Worth listening to the whole story, she lost the lawsuit and got in trouble)
  • Like most of the comments say put up some cameras watching your yard specifically and document things. If you have her email I'd also start documenting conversations too. (Thinking like cya emails at work with a recap of the conversation). If nothing else it helps provide a paper trail of you attempting to talk with her/handle this with out getting the authorities involved.
  • Waste-Load-2408 20m ago Dr evil voice... "How about Noooooo."
  • That_Ol_Cat⚫ 20m ago How dare you use all of your own property! The utter gall of you! Actually, I dare you to take some pictures from her point of view, and then paint those on her side of the fence. Either she'll enjoy your paintings or it'll irk her to heck & back. Win either way!
  • Melodic-Dark6545 18m ago . Give her back the leaves and branches! Mi next door neighbor, the most entitled b!!ch on the planet, does that. So I am nice enough to return her her lost property *3)*
  • frodo28f 17m ago NTA. Do not let your dog out without supervision or at least you going out first to make sure she doesn't toss anything harmful over the fence.
  • Marina_Serena • 17m ago Throwing debris over the fence or using a ladder to look over is crossing a line
