always sleep on the makeshift bed I made and would beg to be let inside. I feel horrible giving her back to someone who just leaves her outside when it's snowing...

Animal control just came and took her. Turns out the owner never called... but they said she's a "community" cat and to next time just leave her outside, because we can't adopt her? I'm p d.

Spearmint_coffee I found myself in the same situation a few months ago. My across the street neighbors technically owned a beautiful white cat, but they never let her inside. She was severely underweight and desperate for love and attention.

In our case, my husband knocked on their door and said he would give them $125 cash on the spot for her, and that we would still let her outside whenever she wanted and they could pet her then and come in our yard whenever they saw her.

It was a bit of a lie because we had no intention of letting her stay an outside cat forever and slowly tapered her off to the point she hasn't even asked or tried to go out in at least a month. But if you've got cash, it could be an approach to consider.

After we bought her I messaged the lady on Facebook to thank her so there would be at least some proof of the transaction, and now she is microchipped to us.

TwilekDancer It's entirely possible, if she's a "community cat," that her caretaker might be fine with you giving her an indoor home. If they were contacted by animal control they may have thought that she was going to a shelter if she wasn't able to be "returned" to the neighborhood. I care for

several community cats in addition to my personal pets, and I would love to learn that someone else in the neighborhood had made friends with one and wanted to provide them with an indoor home! Can you post on Nextdoor or somewhere else local to see if you can make contact with the caretaker?
