Well, when you're asking someone for a favor, you usually have to actually speak with them. However, this granny felt like she could telepathically demand that her younger family member take the day off work, proving that their entitlement went way farther than family obligation. Presumably, if they had just asked for help or asked if their relative was available, they would have made things work.
But when you're expected to bend over backwards, suddenly you're not so inclined to be helpful…
