She didn't look pregnant. All of the employees of the vets office will be adopting them in the future and mama is successfully spayed and recovering!

shiftctrlc_rosebud That's surprising. Usually they'll do an abort spay. I called an animal rescue to help a very pregnant cat find a place to deliver her babies and they just did an abort spay & release. I was really bummed but then they explained it's more ethical.

emmybabycat OP We left it up to the vet when he said that she was full term. I'm sure if they didn't have an incubator and employees willing to constantly care for them they would have just done a spay/abort, which is totally fine and necessary in most cases.

Inner Mortgage_8294 Did they leave the mammories so she can feed?
  • 06
emmybabycat OP They live at the vet's office and are bottle fed around the clock by the vets and the technicians. I suppose they could have done that, but my dad told them to do what was best. This was mama's third litter before we were able to catch her as she's extremely feral. She's also being taken care of until she's well again, and then she will return outside where she's happiest.

StuMacherGhostface OP, is Mama getting adopted too??
  • 10
emmybabycat OP She's feral, so nope. We will continue to feed her but she isn't friendly to humans.
  • 11
porcupine_snout how does that work, are these kittens premies then? or do they usually wait until mama comes to term, give birth, then spay?
  • 12
sickdoughnut No, abort spay is very common and generally necessary option to deal with out of control feral populations. Seems like these happened to be full term by coincidence.
  • 13
emmybabycat OP They were! It was a very happy coincidence
  • 14
Adventurous-berry564 Usually they are not viable if not actively in labour. If they didn't know she was pregnant the dros used would cause problems with the foetuses meaning they may not come out alive.
  • 15
emmybabycat OP The vet informed us of her pregnancy after she was examined. They were able to do a safe C- section and thankfully they're all in great condition
